alittle report i wrote late at night: hello beautiful people i am really inspired and truly exhausted right now -- been traveling with La Otra Caravana in mexico with Subcomandante Marcos out of chiapas and now through the yukatan penninsula -- i guess you read and hear and think about people who inspire you but it is a whole different experience to meet them, see them and listen -- some people are just so plain and simply honest you can feel it in their presence -- you just know to trust them -- i can feel it now and know i came here for a reason -- yesterday Marcos talked with a small group of campesinos from Quintana Roo -- but more he listened, he wrote in his notebook, and you could see he was thinking about what they were saying -- it was a small meeting of local social movements -- later that night he was in front of a big crowd in the plaza -- he shared their stories with the crowd -- he shared the feeling that hit him -- the same problems in the poor mountains of chiapas -- the same pain worthy repeating -- today he spoke softly close to tears about comandante ramona -- he told a story from the oral tradition of the maya she shared with him -- her voice couldnt die -- "never again a mexico without us" she said -- never again without her as well -- we lose so much and fight so hard -- some times we sit and wait and want to break down and cry, rip out our hair in frustration, beat the walls, fight with friends, hate ourselves -- but sometimes we need a simple moment to reflect and shrink the world into a tiny point and look at it for what it is, misshappen, deformed, broken, dying -- but also realize that even though we are children of a messed up human race it doesnt mean we cant try -- we are busy undoing the damage they have done, done to us -- but it is good work and we can do it -- marocs message on this trip surprised me with its simplicity -- dont follow the political parties to their doom -- remake our lives collectively and sustain -- it is a system we are fighting and it is called capitalism -- and maybe we all need to hear those simple words one more time -- i have a lot more to say but i am going to get back to the madness for a while and try and absorb it -- and maybe find that silence inside to clear the pain from my history -- i can only do my best -- do you want to try? stay solid people b 'In sum, we are an army of dreamers, and therefore invincible. How can we fail to win, with this imagination overturning everything. Or rather, we do not deserve to lose.'' - Subcomandante Marcos
