drupal wiki

Communities without borders

In the last UTNE issue there are several articles about inmigration and one specifically that is interesting. The article is Communities on the move and is an interview to a photographer, David Bacon, that have been working on inmigration. I think we need media that connect inmigration inside this borders with migration outside the borders. That shows the people outside and inside as the same people, the ones struggling to survive in the societies rules by international trade agreements and bad goverments.

USCIS and me

Last tuesday I had the interview for the US citizenship. I thought it was going to be an event totallly unstressful and I was really expecting the baby not come before that day. Well, the baby did not come but the event turned to add more stress to the week. I arrived on time and Evan went with me because I heard that sometimes they ask him questions too. The questions about history of the US and english knowledge were trivial. But at the end it turned out that they asked me a lot more paperwork that they asked before. It seemed that they thought that I have not been living with Evan all this years here in California… And they seemed really upset because I don’t have a driver license or a California ID… I don’t drive and I have been using the green card as my ID so I never thought that I could need it (I never needed and is not illegal to lack of those IDs). So now I’m spending several days recollecting copies of taxes and other boring papers to send them and see how it goes.  It seems that a baby to come does not count about a “serious” relationship for the migra :-) Maybe as the same as leaving children without care does not count when doing the raids and deporting people.

As a result of all this I went to the DMV and finally engaged to take the driver license… Just in time around the birth. I really don’t like the idea of driving a car and I don’t think that everybody need it to “survive” in this society. But it is just an ID and could help later…
